breaktime

i'm between grading and more grading, taking a short break to check emails and such, and pandora just queued up the western states motel on my avetts station.  i like it!

the LA times says their music "conjures up images of wide-open spaces, empty highways and yawning horizons--old Route 66 at burnt-orange sunset."  no wonder i like it.  sounds like music for wyoming.

What are the rules for citizens arrest? Specifically, if there's a girl talking on her cell phone, with half her car windows frosted over, who doesn't wait her turn at the four-way, would I get in trouble if I pulled her out of her car and slapped her with her phone a couple of times? I suppose that doesn't quite count as citizens arrest. Vigilante justice, maybe. Whack, whack! In less aggravating news, tomorrow is the last day of classes for the semester. Finally. It's been a long time comin' this fall. I really should start thinking about the trip to WV and AZ and start planning some Christmas gifty-gifts.

2017: Year in review

Here are some things that happened this year: 1. Maggie and I got engaged!  Here we are before heading into Little Wild Horse Canyon, an amazing Utah slot canyon, where I proposed: 2. Maggie and I went to Iceland!  In January!  It was about the same temp there as it was in Laramie while we were gone.  But, Iceland also has volcanoes, and glaciers, and hot springs, and tectonic plates, and more! 3. I went to Baltimore and Tampa! For work travel this year, I presented at ACRL in Baltimore (spring) and LRA in Tampa (fall).  Both of these trips were first-time-visits for me, and I liked both places.  I was surprised by how much I liked downtown Tampa--I'd definitely go back! 4. We got to see Cirque d' Soleil!  No pics of this trip, but for Dad's 70th birthday we all (Sarah and Joel and the kids, Dad and Susie, and me and Maggie) went to Denver to see Cirque d' Soleil's Mexico-inspired "Luzia" performance.  It was all so amaz...

It's sort of exciting (and relatively rare) for me to find three different frames that I like. Now the hard part is narrowing it down to one.
