weekend update

life hasn't felt all that blog-worthy lately. not that it's been boring; it's just that i haven't been reflecting on things much. tabula rosa, or whatever. anyway:
  • trip to drop julie at dia on friday afternoon. e470 is now a no-stop tollroad: apparently they'll bill my license plate sometime in the next 3 to 6 weeks. weird.
  • from dia, a quick stop for caffeine at the starbucks on tower, then up hiway 85 to spend the night at my sister's in greeley. i almost forgot to bring my niece the little play tent i'd gotten for her at ikea a month ago. at my sister's place was our high school friend kenda, who i haven't seen in a couple of years. the first six-pack i ever drank illegally i drank with kenda and our friends travis and chrissa, on the dock at the lake east of newcastle on a fine night in august. i also remember that i had to call kenda's dad to ask permission to take kenda to sweetheart's dance when i was a sophomore. not just a different time, but a different world.
  • picnic at the park on saturday before heading back to laramie. then, in laramie, kebabs at chad's place, within hearing distance of the snowy range music festival.
  • sunday was a trip with chad, kaijsa, and jill up to the snowies and a short hike across the lakes trail and then green chili nachos with kaijsa before heading back to town.
  • monday was mostly lazy day, aside from some grading and the mowing of the back yard. i'm considering starting in on the flower bed demolition out front, but the project intimidates me a bit. it probably needn't, but it does.

citizens arrest

What are the rules for citizens arrest? Specifically, if there's a girl talking on her cell phone, with half her car windows frosted over, who doesn't wait her turn at the four-way, would I get in trouble if I pulled her out of her car and slapped her with her phone a couple of times? I suppose that doesn't quite count as citizens arrest. Vigilante justice, maybe. Whack, whack! In less aggravating news, tomorrow is the last day of classes for the semester. Finally. It's been a long time comin' this fall. I really should start thinking about the trip to WV and AZ and start planning some Christmas gifty-gifts.

So I'm now going to post a bit about the DEMOLITION DERBY, which actually happened the weekend before my trip out here to CA. Backing up even further: in the few days leading up to the DEMOLITION DERBY, it rained pretty heavily, even producing a bit of flooding. This was bad news for the derby: the cars had a tough, tough time getting much traction in 10 inches of mud. The result: a not very demolishing derby. Slo-mo derby. Cars that were disqualified not because they were intentionally trying to stay out of the action but because they were axle-deep in mud and couldn't make a hit. Lame-oh: nowhere near the fun of DEMOLITION DERBY 2005. I had promised several people that DERBY '07 would be barrels of fun. Instead, we left early.
